TYPING SPEED CERTIFICATIONtyping

The Salinas Adult School offers a timed typing speed test to the public. The tests are free. If you would like a certificate to show your word-per-minute score, the fee is $5—cash only— payable after completing the tests.
You must present a picture ID to be able to test.

Pre-Employment Assessment Preparation Workshop
This course includes instruction in passing basic skills—math, reading and writing—examinations for entry-level employment. Assessment strategies and successful interviewing techniques, as well as guidelines for test preparation will be presented. An opportunity to take a comprehensive assessment to qualify for employment with the Salinas Union High School District is offered immediately following the workshop.

Moving Up With Math!
Instruction in Algebra Readiness—Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Explore math in a non-threatening, self-paced manner, with one-on-one assistance from the instructor. Help is available with preparation in math assessments and the California High School Exit Exam.
Requirements: 8 hours of weekly attendance, refundable textbook deposit, and a sincere desire to succeed in the study of mathematics. High school math credits available.

Tutor Program
Looking for a FREE class to improve your academic skills, get job training, and meet new friends? You can improve your study and teaching skills, learn how to use computers and build an employment portfolio. Instructional Aide test preparation and High School Diploma credit available. Tutoring Volunteers Appreciated!

Six CNA CEU units received upon completion. A different topic each month allows C.N.A.s the opportunity to acquire CEUs in order to renew their state certificates.

Restorative Nursing Assistant Course
Pre-registration in person is required. You must present CNA Cert. or proof of passing state exam in order to register. The course is designed for Certified Nursing Assistants who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of restorative care and advancing clinical skills. Classes will be held on three separate days and you must attend all three days. RNA Certificate will only be issued if all 16 hours are completed and have received a passing grade of C or better.

CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM

Clinical Medical Assistant works in the back office and assists the physician with procedures, cares for the patient, performs simple laboratory tests and administers medications.
The courses combine 120 hours of classroom instruction with a 160 hours of off-site clinical externship coordinated by Boston Reed College to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience
This program satisfies all training guidelines established by the State of California Medical Board and the California Medical Assistant Association-CMAA. Graduates will be qualified to apply for CMAA Certification upon completion of the course.

Salinas Adult School, in collaboration with Boston Reed College is offering a 18-week Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program. The Clinical Medical Assistant will help the physician carry out procedures, care for patients, perform simple lab tests and administer medications. The Clinical Medical Assistant works in a doctor''€s office or clinic. This course combines 120 hours of classroom instruction including electrocardiography-EKG, with a 160-hour externship to provide students with a complete learning experience.
Class presentations will be conducted primarily in Spanish to maximize learning of skills. English is used in practicing skills for interaction with patients and other medical office personnel.
Textbooks and other written materials are in English. You must pass an English language assessment to participate in this program, as you are most valuable as a bilingual employee.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM

This is a 25 week training program.
The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, maintaining client records, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assisting with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing. This course combines 168 hours of classroom instruction with a 120-hour pharmacy externship to provide students with a complete learning experience. Students will receive a certificate of completion upon course completion.

ADVANCED ENTRY VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGAM
Are you a former nursing or psychiatric technician student with the desire to finish your training? We have seats available for advanced placement in our Vocational Nursing Program! To apply students will need to complete an interest application with the required attachments and provide a sealed transcript of previous training for evaluation. Tuition will range between $6,667.00 and $20,000.00 plus $600.00 for books, dependent upon time needed to complete the program.

This 30-hour classroom course covers laws and regulations to prepare for the California Highway Patrol written examination. It does NOT include behind-the-wheel training. This training can be obtained at the place of employment. PRE-REGISTRATION is required.

CERTIFIED GREEN GARDENING
Basic Training Series

For home gardening or professionals! Students learn the benefits and techniques of gardening with nature including soils, fertilization, pruning and pest control. Upon completion, student will receive the Green Gardening Certification, which can be used by industry employees or those who wish to work in this field.

NOTARY PUBLIC ON-LINE CLASS
STATE APPROVED FOR NEW OR RENEWING NOTARIES
The State of California requires mandatory education for all applicants who are new or renewing their commissions. This At-Home Notary Education Program satisfies the state requirements. Fast and convenient, study at your own pace. You may print out the on-line workbook.

This class does not include the state exam. You must take the state exam in person. To take the state exam: Log on to https://notary.cps.ca.gov or call 916-263-3520 to schedule a testing date. You may register for the exam at any time. Taking the education class prior to the exam is recommended.

This class is on going. Register at any time during the year, in the Education and Skills office.

This class will be half English learners and half Spanish learners. You will have the opportunity to practice with a native Spanish speaker who will help you with fluency and pronunciation. And you will help the Spanish learner with English fluency and pronunciation.
